NSBE Programs/Community Outreach Support

The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) at Florida A&M University/Florida State University College of Engineering is a longstanding and active student organization. As per our mission statement, we aim “to increase the number of culturally responsible engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community.”  In meeting these objectives we have instituted a number of programs for our collegiate members, as well as the youth of our community. Our members take advantage of our weekly study halls, professional development workshops, leadership institute and alumni/professional networking program. In addition, we mentor those matriculating into an engineering field to ensure their success with its rigor.

The heart of our particular NSBE chapter is community outreach. We were recently awarded the "Outstanding Work in the Community Award," for our efforts in exposing the underserved to career possibilities within the S.T.E.M. fields. Our community service programs include "A Walk For Education," a grassroots program that involves door-to-door information dispersal. We devote our time and effort to educating underprivileged minority communities on college, scholarships, SAT/ACT preparation tools, NSBE and the benefits of the STEM fields. Moreover, we conduct a Pre-College Initiative Program (PCI) for students, grades K-12. The PCI program is a local collaboration with the collegiate chapter and grade schools in the area to form extracurricular activities that help boost performance in math and science classes. We hope to expand our number of partnered schools and send our PCI students to the annual NSBE National Convention. Our organization is also involved in mentoring, summer programs, and fundraisers for the community.

We are determined to increase our community outreach and serve as a pipeline of information for those who do not have it readily available to them. The FAMU/FSU Chapter of NSBE would greatly appreciate a donation of any amount to fund our efforts and reach our goal of $5,000.
