Florida Guitar Festival and Competition

The Classical Guitar Society at FSU and the Classical Guitar Society of Tallahassee will host the Florida Guitar Festival and Competition on FSU's campus in Tallahassee, Florida from September 23-25, 2016. The festival will feature performances by Guitar Foundation of America Winner, internationally acclaimed soloist and FSU alumnus Ricardo Cobo; 2014 Co-Winner Marco Villa; current FSU students; and groups from Leon High School.

The Festival will include masterclasses for the participants taught by Mr. Cobo; Dr. Andrew Zohn, Associate professor of guitar at Columnus State University; and Julian Gray, Chair of the guitar department at the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University and Director of Guitar Studies at Shenandoah University. The Festival will also feature lectures on injury prevention and guitar making by experts in those fields as well as a guitar expo with high quality instruments from Chartwell Guitar. A special effort to promote the Festival within local schools will be made to help expose students to classical music and a higher level of classical guitar playing.
