FSU Tech Fellows

A donation to Tech Fellows is all about empowering Florida State University (FSU) undergraduate students from econically disadvantaged backgrounds to explore innovation and entrepreneurship. We'll be working closely with the award winning CARE office to find outstanding students.

Here's how it works:

Selected students intern at Techstars accelerators locations (Chicago, Detroit, and Berlin). Students will gain hands-on experience and connections in tech entrepreneurship through working with Techstars staff, accepted companies, and mentors.

100% of your donation goes to the students to cover the cost of travel, living, and other expenses incurred during their internship at Techstars.

After the internship, the stuents return to school and  transfer the skills and perspectives they acquired from this internship to students from similar backgrounds through a structured colloquia course in entrepreneurship and innovation.

Students who excel in the colloquia class will become interns the following summer, and after internships, hired as ambassadors the following school year, thus creating a virtuous cycle. Ideally, after graduation, students and teachers will end up as technology founders or employees, resulting in an army of tech entrepreneurs from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

"At Techstars, we’ve researched thousands of companies we've worked with and the results are clear: diversity helps everyone. The Tech Fellows program is a promising way for us to advance inclusive entrepreneurship."

“I’m excited beyond belief and can’t wait to experience what I believe can change my life forever,” said James Turner, 19, a business major from Apopka, Fla., who aged out of the foster-care system. He hopes to use skills acquired during his internship at Techstars Chicago to build technology that helps youth in the foster-care system.
