Maura's Voice

Five years ago, Maura Binkley lost her life in a multiple victim shooting at a Tallahassee, Florida yoga studio, along with FSU faculty member, Dr. Nancy Van Vessem. Six other people were seriously wounded.

The Maura's Voice fund was established by Maura's parents, Jeff and Margaret Binkley, in memory of Maura, a young woman who dedicated her life to serving others. Maura was a senior at FSU who planned to continue the course of her generous life by participating after graduation in the Fulbright Scholarship program or Teach for America.

  • Maura's Voice uses research to educate, understand and inform policy to counter the influences of radicalized hatred.

  • Maura's Voice is a champion for researching and responding to the complex causes and effects of firearm violence.

  • Maura’s Voice has developed knowledge for innovative approaches to forensic evaluation, management, treatment, and prevention strategies.

With your help, we will continue to work to protect our mothers, daughters, sisters and friends from preventable violence.  Your gift to Maura’s Voice directly impacts research to identify and prevent hate crimes, specifically those against women and girls. Please join us with a gift today.
