London, England, is a living, learning laboratory offering Florida State University students the opportunity of a lifetime when it comes to studying biological science. As one of the most highly requested international experiences available to FSU students, the Biology in London program provides insights into historical context of the field, hands-on experiences at the sites of some of the most important advances in biology, and specialized courses with intimate class sizes for majors in biological science and related STEM departments that contribute toward progress in their major.
Through visits to iconic biological science landmarks, such as Charles Darwin’s home, the drinking well that was the origin of the historic cholera epidemic that changed modern medicine, the Natural History Museum and more, the program has been celebrated as a highly dynamic learning experience.
“The excursions and behind-the-scenes experiences we were given were immeasurable in their worth, and the program fostered relationships among like-minded peers and faculty that are difficult to replicate in traditional classes,” said Sara Ballesteros, a senior biological science major who attended the program’s inaugural session.
“Biology in London was the best experience I have had in my time at FSU so far; the smaller, hands-on learning environment cultivated my education in a way I had not experienced and made me feel as though I was learning out in the field for the first time,” said Nia Everidge, a biological science major.
