Mike Long Track and Field Scholarship
The Mike Long Track and Field Scholarship was created in honor of the late Coach Mike Long, who coached the Seminole Track & Field Team for 23 years. This scholarship is awarded to a track and field student athlete each year.
Mike Long coached the Florida State track and field team for 23 years and his remarkable success made the choice to name the track after him an easy one. During his tenure, FSU posted a record of 131 wins and 32 losses. Five times in his 23 years, Long’s teams were undefeated and on six other occasions Florida State lost just one meet. From 1955 to 1977, Mike Long made the Seminoles one of the strongest track and field powers in the South. Fourteen FSU tracksters won All-America honors during his tenure. He is largely responsible for making the Florida State program and facility among the best in the nation.
Coach Long was inducted into FSU Hall of Fame in 1978.
