FSUCML Diving Scholarship

Summary: The FSUCML Diving Scholarships provide funding for FSU students to pursue training for careers in scientific diving. All eligible students are encouraged to apply for these scholarships; however, preference will be given to students who experience financial hardships or are from groups under-represented in scientific diving.

  • The FSUCML Scientific Diving Scholarship provides financial support for students to train to become Scientific Divers with the FSU Academic Diving Program. The scholarship will cover all or a portion of lab fees for Scientific Diver training depending on available funds. Training is provided in accordance with the standards of AAUS. If necessary, this will include prerequisite open-water training.
  • The FSUCML Leadership Diving Scholarship provides financial support for scientific divers in the FSU Academic Diving Program to pursue diving leadership initiatives including but not limited to Divemaster or Instructor certifications. Leadership scholarships will provide up to $1,000 per student.

Funding: Funding has been provided by donations, including funds raised and directed to the FSU Coastal and Marine Laboratory during FSU’s Great Give.

Application Process: Students interested in the FSU Diving Scholarships must apply through the FSU Coastal and Marine Laboratory's webpage. A completed application and supporting materials, including a cover letter and letter of recommendation, must be submitted directly through the online system. Completed applications are reviewed for eligibility and completeness and evaluated through a merit review process by FSU’s Diving Control Board members and the FSU University Honors Program.

Eligible Applicants:

  • Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student at Florida State University.
  • Must be studying a discipline where SCUBA has research applications.
  • Must be sponsored by a member of the FSU Faculty.
  • Preference will be given to students who maintain a 3.2 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
  • While not a requirement, preference will be given to students who experience financial hardships or contribute to training under-represented populations in scientific diving.

Thank you so much for your donation, which helps us increase representation within the Scientific Diving community and support the research efforts of deserving FSU students.
