FSU’s Unconquered Scholars Program provides support services promoting overall success of youth who experienced foster care, homelessness, or ward of the State status. Unconquered Scholars provides qualified Florida State University students with guidance, continual mentorship, advocacy, security, and a voice to further their personal academic success and long-term independence.
Many participants in this program face profound hardships that dramatically increase their risk of leaving academia without a degree. Graduating from high school and attending a post-secondary institution is already a testament to the scholars’ remarkable resilience, determination, and commitment to make a better life for themselves, but we have recognized that added support is critical to their success in completing college.
Since establishing the program in 2012:
-
91.1% of Unconquered students have been retained at FSU
-
The average GPA of Unconquered Scholars is 3.01
-
The Program celebrated its first graduation class in May 2016
-
90.5% of CARE students have a 3.5GPA or higher
The Program facilitates a space for students to connect with one another, to build community and meaningful relationships that can provide support throughout their college career. Our goal is for each scholar to graduate, enter adulthood poised to receive the professional and personal benefits associated with educational attainment, and embody the strength, skill, and character essential for lifelong learning.
