The First Generation Matching Grant Fund provides critical support for students at Florida State University who are first in their family to attend college.
The State of Florida provides a two for one state match for all contributions to this fund, effectively tripling the financial support for this student population.
These funds support students engaged in the Center for Academic Retention and Enhancement (CARE) Program. In addition to financial support, CARE provides preparation, orientation and academic support for first-generation students who may face unique challenges in college because of educational or economic circumstances. Among other accolades, FSU has been recognized as an Exemplar Institution for Access and Student Success based on the CARE program.
Unconquered Scholars, one program within CARE which benefits from the fund, provides support services to students who have experienced foster care, homelessness, relative care or ward of the state status. The Unconquered Scholar Program has been named as a “Model of Excellence” by University Business magazine.
