Forty-nine years ago, the first Florida State University excavation at Cetamura del Chianti began with the celebration of a mass. Since then, hundreds of FSU students have had the unrivaled opportunity to participate in excavation and preservation work at the site, located in the Italian region of Tuscany. The dig is on track to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2023 and, with your support, we can raise funds to cover our students' many needs as they conduct field work, museum internships, and research related to the priceless artifacts excavated over five decades.
Students work in Cetamura through a longstanding collaboration among the FSU Department of Classics, FSU International Programs, and the FSU Florence Study Center, which provides them invaluable opportunities to enhance academic skills that translate to professional development. Alumni of the Cetamura excavation have gone on to careers as archaeologists, museum curators and administrators, educators, and more, and many of them have invested in future generations of students by funding scholarships that provide today's Seminoles with those same opportunities.
