Over the past four years, The Village at the Florida Center for Reading Research (FCRR) has advocated for reading and literacy development in our community. Our advocacy efforts to build awareness by sharing evidence-based information with local stakeholders has resulted in strong connections with local schools through our STAND UP for Reading kiosks and public institutions with our Book Nook Bundles, found at all Leon County libraries. Yet there is more work to do as evident by the numerous invitations for us to contribute our knowledge and resources. As we work to improve students reading scores (that remain just above 50% across our county), we are seeking your support in building capacity through collaboration with community organizations through Community Engagement and Empowerment Kits.

Every dollar raised for our Community Engagement and Empowerment Kits will allow us to reach our goals of increasing our capacity to share quality resources with families and communities. Moreover, we will leverage and supplement the expertise our partners have within their communities by providing a variety of resources and materials vetted by FCRR faculty. These materials, designed to support reading and literacy at home through relevant and engaging activities, will be available online for our partners to access.

Additionally, all contributions will support an FCRR open house to launch the Community Engagement and Empowerment Kits and ensure our partners are equipped to use the materials.

Our goal is to raise $7,000 to provide local partners with a Community Engagement and Empowerment Kits, each containing:

• Access to an FCRR website with informational slides and appropriate ways to use the kits,
• Grade-appropriate, relevant, and learner centered reading and literacy resources designed for community partners, and
• FCRR branded promotional items including stationary, pamphlets/brochures, and infographics.

Every $25 contribution will:

• Partially fund the creation an organization-specific presentation, designed to empower staff and volunteers to support children’s reading development, 
• Provide up to 3 Community Engagement and Empowerment Kits to one local partner organization, and 
• Help support the education of up to 25 children in our community. 

Every $100 contribution will:

• Fund the creation of 5 organization-specific presentations, designed to empower staff and volunteers to support children’s reading development, 
• Provide up to 10 Community Engagement and Empowerment Kits to one local partner organization, and 
• Help support the education of up to 100 children in our community.

Every $500 contribution will:

• Fund an FCRR open house in which partners will learn how to use their kits with stakeholders, 
• Provide up to 50 Community Engagement and Empowerment Kits to one local partner organization, and 
• Help support the education of up to 500 children in our community.
