| The Black Alumni Scholarship Fund was established to provide financial assistance to minority students. One hundred percent of contributions support the scholarship endowment. Each year, the organization awards deserving students with the following scholarships: - Maxwell Courtney – In honor of the first Black undergraduate to attend and graduate from FSU. Designated for an incoming freshman from one of the following Florida counties: Duval, Gadsden, Leon, Miami-Dade or Orange. - MLK Book Stipend – Awarded to three students during the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration through a scholarship process led by the Center for Leadership and Social Change. - Dr. William R. Jones – In honor of the professor emeritus and founder and first director of the FSU Black Studies Program. - International Studies – Designated for a student involved in FSU’s International Programs or who plans to study abroad to gain a first-hand view of the world. - Ms. Eva Killings – In recognition of a long-time FSU staff member, this scholarship is designated for a student who works on campus and demonstrates outstanding customer service. - Byrnes Guillaume, Esq. – Initiated by Byrnes Guillaume to support a Black student of Caribbean descent. - Walter T. King Medical – Initiated by Andrea King Friall, MD, and Eric S. Friall to support first-generation college students enrolled in the FSU College of Medicine (M.D. degree program). The FSU Black Alumni is committed to ensuring that financial resources are available to support Black students in their pursuit of academic excellence. Through your financial support and continued involvement, together we can assist in the recruitment, admission, retention, graduation and placement of Black students at FSU. |
