Providing Food Security through Rent-Free Housing

Transforming Lives Through Housing and Community

For too many college students, the dream of higher education is overshadowed by the harsh reality of housing insecurity. Did you know that nearly half of college students (48%) reported housing instability in the most recent national survey. For them, worries about where they’ll sleep tonight often take priority over attending class, studying, or pursuing their dreams.

That’s where Southern Scholarship Foundation comes in. For the 2026 FSU’s Great Give, we aim to raise $5,000 to help sustain our rent-free housing program—expanding access to a life-changing opportunity for students who need it most, allowing them to focus on their education and build a future full of promise.

At SSF, residents don’t just find housing; they find a home and a family. Through our unique cooperative living model, students learn to budget, cook, clean, and lead alongside their peers. They share meals, take on responsibilities, and support one another, forming bonds that last a lifetime.

The impact?

  • SSF residents save an average of $18,400 each annually compared to traditional housing, making college attainable for students who need it most.
  • In 2025, 77% of SSF graduates left college with ZERO student debt—ready to step into their careers without financial burdens.
  • Most importantly, SSF offers stability, security, and a nurturing environment for students to thrive.

A graduating SSF resident scholar from Fall 2025 described their experience as:

“SSF’s strengths include affordable housing close to campus, plus regular dinners and groceries that support students day to day. I also valued the chance to contribute to something bigger than myself—SSF encourages you to consider others and give back, while still supporting your personal needs and goals.”

With your support, we can make this a reality for more students this year. A gift during FSU’s Great Give doesn’t just provide housing—it transforms lives.

Join us today to give one student the chance to dream, achieve, and succeed.
