About Dog Days Theatre, Sarasota

With Dog Days Theatre, the FSU/Asolo Conservatory produces two plays each summer to meet the demonstrated interests of the Sarasota community AND expand upon the training opportunities provided to our students.

The project not only satisfies the demand this community has for professional theatre during the summer months (a demand that increases as the number of year round residents expands);  it also takes the Conservatory to the next level by adding a new production component that increases by 50% the opportunities provided to the 36 artists who have chosen to come here from around the world to study with our program; it will provide work for the professional actors, directors and designers living in this region; and it will add a valuable component to Sarasota’s vital arts scene. 

By using a combination of professional actors and our student actors, and by using the skills of professional directors and designers, our Dog Days Theatre presents quality professional productions in Sarasota during the summer months.  We produce contemporary plays that are literate, intelligent and entertaining enough to provide this town with the kind of material that is best enjoyed in the dog days of the summer. 

The costs of producing professional theatre are considerable. Help us reach our $5,000 goal, which will greatly assist in covering the costs of paying actors, designers and crew, and for the scenery, costumes and other production expenses!
