We all know the impact of an internship on bridging the gap between classroom learning and practical application. However, students also need internships to be competitive applicants for degree-required entry-level jobs and graduate school admissions. In fact, 68% of our graduating seniors that completed an internship received at least one job or grad school admissions offer before graduation.
It’s time for all of us to make it our mission to make these formative opportunities accessible to all FSU students.
FSU’s Internship Fund provides financial support to our students who may otherwise decline an internship due to financial barriers (costs associated with travel, lost part-time job wages, housing, professional wardrobe, etc.).
Last semester, the Internship Fund received 42 student applications estimating $130,000 in planned internship-related expenses. Currently, the Career Center is limited to distributing $10,000 annually.
…imagine if we had the resources to support every student funding request!
To determine your Internship Fund contribution, consider:
- $20: Starting price for a haircut or personal grooming products
- $25: Average cost of a rideshare workday commute in a major city
- $50: Average cost of tank of gas
- $60: Cost of a 7-day Metro Pass in DC
- $75: Starting price for a pair of quality professional shoes
- $90: Monthly parking pass in downtown Tallahassee
- $100: Weekly grocery budget
- $200: Starting price for one quality business suit
- $500: Round-trip domestic airfare
- $1000: One month living expenses
“Words cannot express my gratitude towards the Internship Fund. I just purchased my dream bike. Tomorrow morning when I wake up at 6:00 AM to get ready for the ride over to my internship, I won't have to worry if my bike will make it there or if the brakes will allow me to slow down going downhill. I will be completely in control of my bike and I will be smiling the entire way.”
