After a long and highly distinguished teaching, research and service career, Dr. Lisa Waxman will retire from Florida State University in January of 2020.
We invite everyone to further Dr. Waxman’s work by making a gift in her honor.
The Lisa Waxman Student Scholarship fund will enable future professionals studying in the Department of Interior Architecture & Design at FSU to carry her message and influence forward to progress the profession and better our world. Gifts will be earmarked within the Interior Design Fund, with the goal of reaching endowment level.
About Dr. Lisa Waxman
Dr. Waxman’s 36 years of dedicated work in education, research and service describes accomplishments of notable merit, including the Arnold Friedmann Educator of Distinction award and acknowledgement as a top 25 Most Admired Educator in the national Design Intelligence ratings of architecture and interior design. Her receipt of the FSU Guardian of the Flame Award, the Seminole Award, fellow status in the Interior Design Educators Council and numerous teaching awards at FSU celebrate her commitment, as do the 42 master of fine arts students she mentored as major professor and as co-major or committee member for an astounding 47 more. Her influence at FSU as full professor and chair of the Department of Interior Architecture & Design are significant.
Dr. Waxman’s research has similarly left deep and lasting impacts on the interior design profession through her pioneering work in computer-aided design at the early edge of its adoption in the profession and the influences of popular culture. Her work in the meaning and potential of ‘third places’ on our culture has garnered national attention and the impacts and potential of sustainable design practices as acknowledged through national research presentation and paper awards with the Interior Design Educators Council have left a legacy of progress.
Dr. Waxman’s illustrious career is also a model of giving back, and her service not only impacted legions of interior design students at FSU, but also at the national level through her presidency of the Interior Design Educators Council (as well as numerous other leadership positions), service as chair of the Board of Directors for the Journal of Interior Design, and the chair of the Board for the Council for Interior Design Accreditation.
