FSU’s Center for Undergraduate Research and Academic Engagement (CRE) has partnered with Launch Florida  to promote diversity in the technology sector by providing summer internships for underrepresented students. These students gain hands-on experience and connections in tech entrepreneurship through working with program staff, startup companies, and mentors. Recent research has shown that it is underrepresented students that stand to gain the most from entrepreneurship training programs compared to others. In addition, programs like Tech Fellows help prospective entrepreneurs tap into business networks that are crucial to developing the informal mentoring and training they need to succeed.

The Tech Fellows program connects students from FSU’s Center for Academic Retention and Enhancement with summer internships at participating Florida-based incubators and accelerators. CARE, the largest program of its kind in the nation, provides comprehensive support for first-generation, low-income students campus-wide and houses the Unconquered Scholars program, which supports students previously classified as foster care, homeless, or ward of the State.

Program partners for Summer 2018 include the Launch Florida network of incubators and accelerators located in Tallahassee (Domi Station), Orlando (Canvs), Tampa Bay (Wave), Miami (500 Startups) and Melbourne (Groundswell).
