The Center for the Study and Promotion of Communities, Families, and Children was created to generate and sustain transformational knowledge for effective policies, services, and usable research for the promotion of communities, families, and children of Florida, the nation and across the globe. The Center unified all of the College’s existing institutes and the MDC. The Center’s goal is to enhance their current missions while creating new opportunities to pursue external research funding opportunities which was impossible in the silo arrangement. The Center will be a place that impacts policy, practice, and community. Every dollar to the Center is matched 1:1.
The Center's Role
The Center serves to coordinate the activities and resources for
- the Institute for Family Violence Studies;
- Trinity Institute for Addictions;
- Institute for Justice and Research Development; and,
- the Multidisciplinary Evaluation and Consulting Center.
Our Vision
“The College of Social Work wants to ensure that it and its affiliated centers and institutes synthesize their efforts and maximize opportunities to create collective impacts that benefit communities, families, and children.”
Ellen Piekalkiewicz, Director, Center for the Study and Promotion of Communities, Families, and Children
The Importance of Communities
American democracy depends on the lessons learned in neighborhoods and within families. Fundamentally, the Center is committed to contributing intellectually challenging and interdisciplinary scholarship that can help transform communities and strengthen families.
