Every year The Ringling hosts graduate students in residence as part of the MA program in Museum and Cultural Heritage Studies offered in partnership with the Department of Art History at FSU. The residency exposes students to what life is like in a professional museum environment. As part of weekly seminars on the subjects of exhibition development and public programs, the students take short fieldtrips to other museums in and around Sarasota. With support from FSU’s Great Give, these experiences could be supplemented by an extended trip to Gainesville!
Founded in 1869, Gainesville has some truly incredible history. From its first Spanish settlers to the Civil War, the area is full of noteworthy landmarks. Our FSU students will have an incredible opportunity to visit institutions like:
- The Florida Museum of Natural History—located on the University of Florida’s campus
- Harn Museum of Art—located on the University of Florida’s campus
- Cade Museum of Creativity
- Matheson History Museum
This exciting opportunity would introduce the students to the city’s many museums, which would greatly enrich their understanding of and appreciation for the variety of institutions within the museum field. In addition, students will have an opportunity to connect with other students and colleagues at the University of Florida fostering cross institutional relationships.
