Intensive Comprehensive Aphasia Program

For this year’s Great Give campaign, the FSU’s School of Communication Science and Disorders is raising money to support their Intensive Comprehensive Aphasia Program (ICAP). Aphasia, a communication disorder affecting a person’s ability to talk, read, and write, is caused by brain injury or disease, with stroke being the most common cause. The FSU ICAP will provide an annual 4-6 week dedicated program for stroke survivors and their family members to engage in stroke and aphasia education sessions, as well as individual and group communication therapy sessions with our speech-language pathology students and faculty. This program will be interdisciplinary and also include opportunities for stroke survivors to work with students, faculty, and professionals in related fields, such as social work, animal therapy, music therapy, yoga therapy, and art therapy. Funds from the Great Give will support the second annual FSU ICAP helping to shape an ongoing person-centered, wholistic stroke and aphasia rehabilitation program to better meet the needs of stroke and brain injury survivors in our community.
