WISE (Women in IT/ICT Sharing Experiences) is focused on mentoring female students in the College of Communication & Information. Our goal is to connect them with industry leaders, and provide opportunities for mentorship, leadership, and success.

Wise Women Program

FSU Women in IT & ICT Sharing Experiences from FSU CCI on Vimeo.

What are our goals?

  • Provide professional events for members (guest speaker series, mentorship events, career days, internship opportunities, company tours)
  • Provide opportunities for leadership for students (executive board, leadership roles, outreach to schools)
  • Facilitate links between FSU and the local business/technology community for our female students
  • Provide venues for social collaboration for students (Bowling, Picnics, Pizza Nights)

We host a industry breakfast each semester that connects local female CEO/CIO/Executives with our students. We run Girl Scouts camps and middle school summer camps to attract more young women to STEM programs.

What have we accomplished?

• Overall female enrollment in the IT program at FSU 2006-2010 averaged 20%
• The number of females in EACH graduating class from the IT program had been limited to 10-12%

WISE was launched in 2009 to recruit, retain, and graduate more women in IT

• Current female enrollment is 40%  <---- thats AMAZING for a Tech progam!
• The number of females in EACH graduating class from the IT and ICT program has increased above 50%

What can YOU do to help WISE?

You can help Florida State and WISE reach more young women and promote STEM around the state with your donations. By supporting the meals/lodging/transportation needs of WISE members, you can help us reach new audiences (as well as promote FSU).

You can help Florida State and WISE send more of our female students to conferences such as Grace Hopper. These conferences do not happen in Tallahassee and typical travel/lodging easily runs about $1500 per student.

You can help Florida State and WISE host more female workshops and mentoring breakfasts with local female leaders. Each semester we host a breakfast that costs $750 in venue/food costs.

Your support for WISE is critical to ensure that our students build the communication, teamwork, and leadership skills needed for successful careers in information technology and communication.

You can help Florida State and WISE by getting involved, volunteeringyour time to mentor our students, and particiapting with our events.

This past March, we hosted our 6th "Women in Leadership" conference that was supported by 50 panelists and 300+ female students. We would love to host the event again in March of 2020.  See more at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMb_nzuUdW8
