About our Program

In athletic training, a modality is a therapeutic method or agent that athletic trainers use for the physical treatment of a disorder. At this time the Florida State University Athletic Training teaching lab is only equipped with one medical modality for student laboratory practice. In order for the students to remain current and well versed in modality use and application, additional inventory is needed |

Athletic-Related Injury Equipment: Athletic-related injuries are treated by commercial grade equipment that enhance healing. This includes thermo- and cryo-therapy equipment which treats using hot and cold respectively, reducing swelling and pain. |
Athletic Training Lab Equipment: The athletic training lab is composed of lasers, electrical and acoustical modalities as well as advanced compression units and advanced Iontophoresis-delivery systems, which deliver medicine through electricity. These machines aid in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and allow Athletic Training students practice in a controlled laboratory setting, preparing them for their future careers. |

"Having access to a fully stocked lab would allow the athletic training students the opportunity to collaboratively study as well as fine tune skills such as special tests and manual muscle tests. The athletic training students would be able to practice in a stress free environment; having the opportunity to fine-tune skills before entering the training room would leave future students more confident to tackle any task." Kenny Mynatt, Senior, 2014 |
"The FSU Athletic Training Program is nationally recognized because of the amazing Sports Medicine staff and Athletics department that prepare us for the real world. The program directors are dedicated to the success of their students, and this equipment would be exactly what we need to better ourselves as students and throughout our careers." Paige Beitlich, Senior, 2014 |

"Having new modalities as tools of knowledge would not only benefit the present but also future athletic trainers to delve into a new world of information and discovery in the hopes that it will help them shape the world in a positive manner."
Ryan Darragh, Senior, 2014 |
"The opportunity to practice the skills vital to thorough care for athletes in an educational, low-pressure setting is imperative to the development of well-rounded, confident athletic trainers. The new athletic training teaching lab provides potential for that kind of training, but without the modalities and rehabilitation tools needed the environment is not complete. With modalities athletic training students would be able to provide care to the athletes at Florida State and further on in our future careers." Paige Prince, Senior, 2014 |
