Research has shown that when students participate in music, their academic performance benefits. Help us ensure that students at Florida State University Schools, also known as Florida High, get access to both an enriching musical and educational experience by donating to the Florida High Band fund for the purchase of two upright basses.
The upright bass, or double bass, is an essential part of jazz, bluegrass, classical, and many other genres of music, which makes it one of the most versatile instruments of all time. With origins dating back to earlier stringed instruments of the European renaissance, the double bass is a standard part of most orchestras and many smaller chamber ensembles. In the 20th century, the double bass helped form the bottom end for all sorts of jazz combos and country bands where players dropped the bow in favor of a plucking or slapping playing style.
